The theme was “Gratitude” and featured two amazing speakers: Region of Peel member and 2016 Humorous District winner, Patricia Williams, and Keynote speaker, Elaine Barnes.

Patricia spoke about her journey and the benefits of Toastmasters and how it not only helped her to win the Humorous Speech Contest but also helped her confidence (both at work and in her everyday life) and has inspired her to ‘want’ to do her best. Also, a member of the Region of Peel’s Executive Leadership Team, Janette Smith, gave greetings to attendees.

Elaine Barnes spoke of the benefits of Toastmasters within the correctional institutions as well as her struggles while working within corrections facilities. It was an eye opener for many as Elaine described the daily lifestyle of an inmate and volunteers.

There were some laughs and questions and all seemed to enjoy the event. After the event, attendees had a meet and greet with the speakers while enjoying great food as well as stopping by the information desk. There were magazines as well as various informational items about Toastmasters.

The event attracted over 50 people. It was a great turnout with great food and provided for a greatopportunity for many staff and visitors to learn about Toastmasters.

I (Event & Committee Chair ) would like to thank the committee members (Asha Hassan, Ben Yee, Eucharia Igwe, Anila Lalani, Rosanna Bullock and Leslie Benfield) for all of their hard work. I would also like to thank Paul Lewkowicz, Puneet Parhar, Bill Nicholson and Agnes D’Souza who volunteered their time to help with the event.
