When An Area Comes Together
Usually, when area clubs come together, it’s for a contest. But have you ever wondered what it would be like to have area clubs come together to collaborate rather than compete? Area 31 held their annual joint meeting on Tuesday May 2, 2017. Historically, this has been a joint meeting of the two community clubs, but this year, for the first time, all four area clubs came together for a meeting. And what a meeting it was!
There were four speakers and four evaluators – one from each of the clubs. The clubs shared the meeting roles. There was a debate about whether students should be allowed cell phones in the classroom. Table topics was modified ever so slightly to ensure that every person in the room had a chance to speak. And at the insistence of everyone present, even our Table Topics Master, Ron Kosciolek, had a turn. There was lots of laughter, great food and an extraordinary opportunity for toastmasters to provide a positive and supportive environment for everyone in the area.
If you’d like to have this amazing experience for yourselves, talk to your area director and bring your clubs together. You’ll be glad you did!
