Remember that you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and the same goes for your online image.
As a portrait photographer, I enjoy taking pictures of people expressing their emotions. Over the last couple of years, my client base has shifted from portrait photography to headshot photography for social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, and Corporate websites.
It is still surprising to me that some people don’t use a professional image. Now, more than ever, companies and industries use social media platforms such as LinkedIn to preview applicants, job search, and engage in networking. Many individuals continue to devalue the power of their image by using casual pictures from a sporting event, night out, or special occasion. It doesn’t stop there, they use sport or team logos, low-resolution images, cropped and distorted images, family members, and pets. These are all deterrents from a potential employer and new associate taking you seriously.
Your profile image is your brand logo. Research shows that having a professional image of yourself makes your profile fourteen times more likely to be viewed by others. LinkedIn reports over 720 million members. Shouldn’t you seek to leave a favorable first impression? A professional photographer can ensure that your image is flattering and attractive. Professional headshots are in the price range of $200 – $400 depending on the length of shoot and location. If you have not thought about your online image, I urge you to take it seriously. An investment in your online image is an investment in yourself.
