Nominations for the 2022-2023 "of the year awards"

Nominations are open for the 2022-2023 of the year awards.

It is time again for us to submit our nominations for these prestigious awards. These awards will be announced at our upcoming event in the Fall of 2023.

Douglas Barclay Award

The history of this award goes back to D60. In 1995, to commemorate the 80th birthday and 35th year in Toastmasters, George Keenan’s wife Judy, in coordination with the District, established an award in his name. George Keenan was a very dedicated Toastmaster who served the organization and the District for many years, particularly as Parliamentarian and Credentials Chairman, and as a District Governor in 1984-85. He was one of the most recognized Toastmasters in District 60. The award was to be given yearly to an active Toastmaster who continued to serve and promote Toastmasters within the District and externally. The first recipient of this award was George Keenan himself in 1995, followed by Harold Usher in 1996, Vince DaCosta in 1997, Bob Porter in 1998, Doug Barclay in 1999, Ralph Williamson in 2000, Pauline Duncan-Thrasher in 2001, Raghbir Dhillon in 2002, Heather Loveridge in 2003, Kai Rambow in 2004, Michiel Bagchus in 2005, Eric Matto in 2006, Judy Suke in 2007 and Bill Bienia in 2008. When the District split, it was felt that a separate award should be created to recognize the same attributes of past leaders in District 86. Doug Barclay had been in Toastmasters for well over 30 years, had been District Governor twice in 1973-74 and 1978-79, and was an International Director in 1975-1977. Doug embodied and exemplified the attributes for this award. The last recipient of George Keenan’s award, Past International Director, DTM Bill Bienia, chaired the committee and presented the inaugural Douglas Barclay Award at the District 86 Spring Conference on April 13, 2008.

Awarded annually to a Past District Officer who continues to exemplify our Toastmasters values of integrity, respect, service & excellence and for their contributions and continued service as well as the promotion of Toastmasters to the outside community.

Each Club in good standing is entitled to nominate members in good standing who meet most of the criteria and would accept the nomination. The nominee must agree to attend the Fall Awards Ceremony, and must be present to receive the award.
