Masterclass in Making Toastmasters More Inclusive
Workshop Category: Club Excellence: IDEA-Disability Inclusion
What can I do to make your life easier? This is the question that each Toastmaster should be asking when they go to club meetings or other events–it shows kindness and fosters an environment where everyone feels welcome and wants to participate. When you add disabilities and disability accommodations into the mix, it often makes people nervous on doing or saying the wrong thing. The fear of being awkward or offensive often creates a subconscious element of avoidance towards disabled people–we want to remind our fellow Toastmasters that it is our differences that make us special. And doing something differently to achieve the same goal doesn’t make it wrong, it makes it different. This workshop will destigmatize disabilities and disability inclusion and provide a few tips on how to make your club more accessible.

Stephanie Manica is newly on her Toastmasters journey, joining in November 2022. She is the president at the Mississauga Sales and Marketing Club, and part of the IDEA Committee and it passionate to create a world where disability inclusion is an integral part of our society.
