Incremental progress = consistent improvement
The sacrifices you make today will pay dividends in the future. Unknown
Have you thought of becoming a DTM? Do you know what the requirements are and how close you are to fulfilling them? One of the things we need to do in life is set a goal, we have to know what achieving that goal will entail, and how close or far away we are from achieving it. Does fulfilling that goal fit into your life right now or is it a goal for another time?
Even if becoming a DTM does not fit into your life right now you can take roles that will continue to move you closer to the goal of achieving your DTM. It took me thirty-eight years to become a DTM because my first stint at Toastmasters was with Trillium Toastmasters from 1986 – 1989 and I joined Meadowvale Toastmasters in November 2016. I was able to use the Club Officer roles achieved at Trillium Toastmasters towards my DTM.
Requirements for DTM:
Complete two learning paths.
Serve 1 year as a club officer, or two six month terms.
Serve 1 years as a district officer.
Electives:
Serve as Club Mentor or Club Coach.
Serve as a club sponsor or Conduct a Speechcraft or Youth Leadership Program.
Complete the DTM Project.
There you have the requirements, and I urge each member to see where they stand on their path to DTM and accept roles that will move them closer to achieving
it even if it is not high on your priority list. If you can achieve one thing on the list each year, plus do your two pathways in five years we could celebrate your DTM.
We have many DTM’s who will be happy to answer your questions, give advice, and point you in the right direction, and I am also here for you as DTM Chair for District 86.
We are here to help, encourage, and celebrate you.
I haven’t met anyone that regrets achieving their DTM. Someone said, “If we get everything we can out of Toastmasters we will never get out of Toastmasters,” so why not spend some of your time planning your path to DTM.
It will take time and effort to meet the requirements to achieve a DTM, but when we do hard things we learn we can do other hard things. Once we get out of our comfort zone in one area we may get out of our comfort zone in other areas and be surprised at the changes we will be willing to make in our life.
Toastmasters is focused on improving our lives through public speaking but it also improves our lives through the relationships we build. Bill Walsh tells us, ” Invest in great relationships, they will pay a lifetime of dividends.”
Toastmasters has made a difference in my life. I believe it can make a difference in every member’s life, and it will pay dividends throughout our lives. Where will we be when we see dividends on our dividends?
Benjamin Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”
